The final unloading of the ships at Hastings. William immediately set about constructing a wooden fortification which he brought with him in pieces. This was constructed on the top of the cliffs and is the location of the ruins of the later stone castle. Again the Norse blood in them typifies and replicates the tactics that were used by the Vikings when they invaded overseas. |
