A vivid illustration of the effectiveness of the Danish battle axe. This long handled axe had the ability, with one swing, to kill the rider and the horse. It was a fearsome weapon and was used originally by the Danes and especially the housecarls of King Canute. It was used in a swinging circular action over one shoulder and then the other to keep the momentum going. This ensured maximum damage when anything came into its path.
